Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
