Recently, I received a question from one of my students. It stated, "What precisely is pot odds and is Hold’em pot odds strategy worth pursuing?"
One factor to remember, any type of Texas hold’em probabilities can and usually do receive extremely confusing. On the other hand, let me break pot probabilities down in really simple terms. Please note that we are only discussing Pot Odds. Not outs, implied odds, easy probabilities or something else like that.
In short, pot probabilities are the odds you obtain when determining the ratio of the amount of money in the pot to the amount of money it will charge you to call the bet.
For instance, let us say you’re heads up with Gambler A. If there’s 150 dollars in the pot after the flop and Gambler A places a $20.00 bet it’s going to expense you only 13 per cent of the pot to stay in the hand. If your likelihood of winning is greater than thirteen per cent it’s a no-brainer to call because you’ll have good pot probabilities.
That’s all there is to it genuinely. Holdem pot odds boils down to one factor. If your chance of winning is far better than the ratio of the pot size to the wager then you’ve got very good pot probabilities. If it is lower than you’ve got bad pot odds.
One much more thought about Texas holdem pot odds. You’re still playing the gambler much more so than anything else. Bet on the gambler much more than your starting hands or the size of the chip stack and even, yes the pot odds.
If it is possible to understand to read your opponents well you’ll be able to utilize pot odds to help justify or solidify your conclusion. Except Texas hold em pot probabilities do not have to be an end all whenever you make a poker decision.
Knowing and understanding how Texas holdem pot probabilities work is usually a useful and successful strategy. But again don’t produce Texas hold em pot probabilities your only system.
