Stu is thought to be by many to the greatest No Limit Holdem Poker player ever.
The 3 time World Poker Champion was born in New York in 1953 and started betting poker before becomming a teenager.
The young gambler began wagering gin and at the age of ten had won his very first gin rummy tournament, while on vacation with his parents. By the time he turned 14 the little poker maestro had turned pro and stopped going to school.
In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the history books by winning 10 grand in a gin rummy tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still stands in New York today.
The fast talking wiz kid has been likened, in poker terms, to sporting greats like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Stu Ungar had a real talent for playing poker but regardless of his achievements in Holdem poker, he preferred betting gin.
Stu once said that there might several day be a improved No Limit Texas hold em player than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a improved gin player.
In 1980 Stu was put on the global map as one of the greatest Hold em Poker gamblers in the entire world when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the 1st time. Extraordinarily it was the 1st time he had played in the tournament.
The right after year he put aside any thoughts that it had been luck, by successfully protecting his title. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by winning his third World poker championship.
Except this poker master also fought with substance abuse and a year right after succeeding his 3rd title Stu past away in his hotel room. According to physicians, he had died from cardiac arrest which was caused by his lifestyle.
Stu had began with practically nothing except his skill and talent for the game which made this poker great a millionaire many times over.
