Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While competing in web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes Omaha and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
