Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
