Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve closing game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
