Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
