Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
