Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
