Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the last game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
