Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve final game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best enthusiasts in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found playing net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money games?
