Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
