Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he loved gambling on numerous card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very competitive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his dad. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he would play countless hours and don’t win most times. He made some additional money by being an runner for the poker players. He believed he could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to acquire more sleep and concentrate even more on poker.
The actual improvement in his game happened when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly play against one another. Howard had access into a few of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would hone his cunning thinking skills. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL Texas Holdem.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the best female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer moved to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the subsequent decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
