Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
