Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
