Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five where he loved playing different card games at a young age. He found himself getting very competitive in these card games as he was competing against his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a bit and headed to New York to compete in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were difficult as he played extensive hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some additional cash by being an runner for the poker players. He theorized he possibly could improve his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more rest and concentrate even more on the game.
The real advancement in his game happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would frequently play against one another. He had access into a number of the greatest players in chess. With their help, he would tweak his strategic thinking abilities. He used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit hold’em.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie was an excellent student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. He told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the WSOP tournaments. She is one of the strongest female players the poker world today. Howard Lederer headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
