Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
